While tile is ultimately the first line of defense against the elements on a roof installation, underlayments play a critical role by providing a secondary level of waterproofing protection directly on top of the wood roof deck. As a crucial barrier that contributes to the performance and longevity of the entire roof system, it is important to choose the right underlayment for a particular climate.

The Role

Opportunity Snapshot
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, as Technical Trainer, you will be responsible for training sales staff and customers (roofing contractors, building officials and architects) how to safely, properly and efficiently install Boral roofing products including metal, composite, tile and components. You will prepare and deliver the majority of your training in the Mesquite plant, which has a designated training area, but will also travel to other plants/training sites and customer sites to deliver training as needed. In addition to your training responsibilities, approximately 10% of your time will be spent serving as a subject-matter-expert and helping customers and Sales Reps find solutions for roof, product or installation issues/claims.

Role Details
On a daily basis, you will schedule, plan, prepare and/or deliver training. Sometimes training will be scheduled for you by the Technical Services Manager. Other times, you will follow-up and schedule training sessions yourself. While training can last as little as one day or as long as two full days, typically, your training will be covered in a day and a half.

For each training class, you will prepare materials and complete pre-training set-up to ensure everything is in place. You will pace the class, moving as appropriate between the classroom and a hands-on training area with roofing materials on a roof deck. In conjunction with administrative support, you will plan meals such as lunches during training events. At the end of a training, each trainee will complete a survey of the class, which you can use to inform your delivery, execution and knowledge requirements. In addition, you will:
  • Follow all Boral safety guidelines, trainings & policies and promote a safety culture internally and externally.
  • Train sales team members and customers about key competing products as appropriate.
  • Train sales team members and customers on the value proposition of Boral Roofing products.
  • Maintain the training facility in Mesquite to ensure it's safe and orderly at all times; ensure safety of offsite training areas you visit.
  • Obtain, and ship when necessary, all materials needed for training.
  • Continuously learn about new competing products introduced into the market and how they compare to Boral's products.
  • Investigate product claims associated with installation or product and performance as required, including, but not limited, to roof inspections, interviewing customers and contractors.
  • Evaluate Boral or other roofing products as required.
Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.
