The Requirements

To be a strong fit for the Assistant Plant Manager opportunity, you will have: 
  • Associate's degree is required

  • Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing principals: the ideal candidate will have demonstrated success driving improvements in safety, quality, productivity and/or efficiency using lean methodology (e.g. 5S, Kaizen, etc.) Quick question for you - click here
  • Knowledge of equipment repairs, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding problem-solving abilities
  • Organization, prioritization and time management skills; strong multi-tasking abilities
  • The ability to work independently and meet goals autonomously
  • Computer savvy in a Microsoft Office suite environment, including Excel, Word, Outlook etc.

The Role

You will report directly to the Plant Manager and oversee a team of four Production Supervisors. This is a 24/7 site and you'll predominantly work in the day shift but will showcase the flexibility to step in and cover the supervisors' shifts as needed.

At a high level, you'll spend about 70% of your time overseeing production, safety, quality, staffing and material management; and the remaining 30% with big picture forecasting and planning. While maintaining the utmost focus on a safety first culture, specifically, your responsibilities will be to: 
  • Ensure plant facilities and equipment are maintained to meet production schedules by assisting in training production personnel in preventive maintenance and establishing a preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Assist the Plant Manager in creating a safe working environment, ensuring implementation of plant safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Making recommendations and assisting the Plant Manager in developing the operating plan and monitoring results against the plan; assist in other areas including but not limited to safety management, quality assurance, office administration and risk management.
  • Assist in equipment and machine acquisition and repairs, service contracts and agreements.
  • Maintain current permits and/or obtain new permits from appropriate governmental agencies, ensuring the facility is in regulatory compliance.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities assigned to obtain maximum efficiency of operations to meet production needs.
  • Lead a team of employees with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and production.
  • Train and coach supervisors and hourly personnel.
  • Confer with the Plant Manager to establish working schedules for all production.
  • Adhere to budget for all departments, including maintenance supplies.
  • Supervise equipment/facility maintenance operations, including the preventative maintenance program.
  • Perform all other duties as requested or assigned.
